Trip to the Sahara desert lasts 10 days. We can make it longer and spend one more day in Aint Ben Haddou - in fortified village, the popular place among scenarists, who needs desert for their scenes. The landscape of desert is much more varied that at the Atlantic coast - we pass oasis with palm trees, rocky desert, sandy dunes, we pass through the mountains Bani and one of the longest river in Morocco - Draa. Desert is available for us from November to March. Day temperatures reaches 30 degrees in November to 18 degrees in January. Nights are going to be much colder with temperature 10 degrees. We take up to 9 riders. However we can take non riders as well and organize for them trip with quads
The trip begins in Marrakech. Entire day we have for sightseeing, losing ourselves in narrow streets of medina or resting in gardens.
Accomodation is in a stylish hotel in medina.
After breakfast we are heading south – through the High Atlas mountains and mountain pass Tischka (2260 m above sea level). The way is winding and difficult, that is why the journey lasts 7 hours. We try to reach Zagora – the last city before desert.
After breakfast we get on horseback. It is the day full of rocky desert, oasis, beber villages. At the end of the day we reach the mountains and set up the camp under palm trees.
We are going along river and leave the inhabited areas. We can meet only some Nomads withe their herds. We take lunch on the slope, make first grand gallops and we enter to the real sand and dunes of Sahara desert.
We need to get through the sandy dunes. Later the soil is harder, more compacted. Our aim is M’hamid – the last village on the morrocan side. We enter the mountains gate which is called the gate to the Sahara desert. The wide is open
so we have planty of place for galloping.
We have a long day ahead. The area with low plants and acacias begins. We see only deserted space and mountains on the horizon.
We reach mountains. After lunch in berber village we need to get through the Bani mountains. We descend the horses and go next to them. It takes us 40 minutes to reach the summit and 40 minutes to descend. From the height we see wildly view on Zagora.
This is the last day on horseback – we are heading Zagora, galloping a lot, also through the narrow paths in vallages. We get through the river and in afternoon we reach the camp.
This is the additional day, which we organize on demand. After breakfast we do not come back to Marrakech but stop in Aint Ben Haddou – fortified village near Ourzazate. The view from the fortress on the mountains is incredible. We can also visit Atlas film studio – where the movies picture for films like Game of Throne, Gladiator or Asterix and Obelix were taken.
Coming back to Marrakech- in the afternoon we can do shopping, taking the last view to the city or just rest in the hotel terrace.
